WCHN | Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services | Proposed Closure of the Infant Therapeutic Reunification Services | Member Feedback Sought

26 May 2020

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) has invited the Public Service Association (PSA) to provide feedback about the proposed closure of the Infant Therapeutic Reunification Services (ITRS). CAMHS advises that ITRS, jointly operated by CAMHS and Department for Child Protection (DCP), had its funding ceased as of December 2019, and that the Department of Human Services (DHS) extended the funding while it undertook a brief review of the service. However the outcomes of the review include the cessation of the service in August 2020, and CAMHS advises that WCHN support this.

The letter from CAMHS to the PSA dated 21 May 2020 can be found here.

The DHS Review and Recommendations report can be found here.

The PSA is seeking feedback regarding the review document, and other aspects of this matter as follows:

  •  The data/evidence used in the review - any inaccuracies or omissions
  •  The recommendations from the review - are there concerns that the cutting of this service will impact negatively on the community? If so, in what way?
  •  Are there any alternative proposals from members?

The PSA will be holding a joint meeting of PSA members and South Australian Salaried Medical Officers Association members, but in addition is seeking feedback by email from PSA members to include in the PSA's response to the employer.

Please forward any comments to your PSA Organiser by email by close of business Friday 5 June 2020 to allow them to be included in a collated and non-identifying manner in the PSA's response.

The PSA will also be seeking feedback from members working in DCP, and a separate Brief will be sent to those members.
