Update on Library Motion put to Parliament

26 September 2016

Thank you to all staff who were able to get out and support Tammy Franks MLC tabling her motion of support to the State Library of South Australia (SLSA). It was well attended and the PSA is happy with the public support and media coverage gained. We filled the Presidents Gallery at Parliament House which is a great effort.

On Wednesday 21 September 2016 Tammy Franks MLC tabled a motion of support to the SLSA staff by questioning the State Government on the proposed cuts to the SLSA budget. In her motion she talked about the essential role that the SLSA plays in the documentation and preservation of South Australian history. She also talked about the role the SLSA plays in the greater community.

The motion now will go to vote to the lower house. The PSA understands that although the Weatherill Government may not support the motion there are enough other politicians in support that the motion will get passed. The PSA will keep members informed of the progress.

The PSA encourages members to keep up the great work you are all doing to fight against the proposed restructure and budget cuts.
