Transportation of Prisoners - PSA Motion

On Wednesday 3 August 2016 the PSA Worksite Representatives attending the DCS Central Consultative Representatives meeting determined the following motion.

Any prisoner that requires the Department for Correctional Services (DCS) admission and induction processes to be completed will be regarded as a “new” prisoner as per the definition of the Correctional Services Regulations 2001 Part 2 Section 5, “Admission Hours”.

Any prisoner admission or induction processes that are required to be completed on a prisoner that arrives outside the hours of 0900 to 1800, Monday to Friday will not be accepted unless the following clear protocols have been met:

    • Advance notice is provided

    • Good reason” is provided and recorded

    • Agreed operational staffing is available

    • SAPHS support is available and the prisoner health assessment is completed

    • Appropriate staffing to record all prisoner property is available

The PSA requires written confirmation of these protocols and an implementation plan for the protocols by Thursday 18 August 2016.”

The motion was tabled by the PSA at the Central Consultative Committee meeting held on Thursday 4 August 2016 at DCS Corporate Office.
