Tafe SA | “Student Experience Transformation” | Extension of Preference Process Timeframes, and Tafe SA Response to Restructure Workload Assessment and Process Issues

02 December 2019

The Public Service Association (PSA) again thanks members for their continued input into the “Student Experience Transformation” (‘SET’) Restructure processes.

After repeated requests, TAFE SA has now forwarded all responses to the PSA and members’ feedback regarding the Workload Assessment and other process Issues.

The PSA was then advised by TAFE SA that the preference process was commencing, with only a seven day timeframe for submission. This raised numerous concerns for members, including, but not limited to:

  • Disadvantage for part-time staff
  • Staff away from TAFE SA on secondment/leave did not receive this information at the same time as “on-site” staff, instead receiving it between one – two days later
  • Positions not listed on the form
  • Errors on the form
  • No updated FTE chart released taking into account vacancies held by contracts staff despite TAFE SA advising this would be provided no later than the time that preferences were issued.

The PSA continued to advocate strongly about the above issues, as did members to their managers and at meetings.

The PSA has now been advised by TAFE SA that the closure of preference submissions will be 10:00am on Monday 9 December 2019. This is a significant win for PSA members and demonstrates that by working with their union and PSA Worksite Representatives, and standing strong together, change can be achieved.

The PSA is aware that TAFE SA still has issues such as those listed above to address. The PSA has advised TAFE SA that the expectation is that those issues will be resolved today (29 November 2019) to ensure that staff have a clear period to consider and submit their preferences.

If members continue to hold concerns or find other issues with the preference forms, please advise your managers immediately and also the PSA. Your union will continue to monitor this process and advocate for members’ rights.

The commencement of implementation and ongoing monitoring remains a critical time for TAFE SA salaried staff. If you or your colleagues are not yet members of the PSA, please take the opportunity to join.
