Subject Matter Expert (SME) Restructure Consultation

27 February 2020

SA Pathology has released a consultation paper (here) outlining a proposed restructure to accommodate changes to the delivery of the SME service.

Previous SMEs returned to their substantive positions late last year. It was decided that six SME positions would be advertised and filled in an ongoing capacity, each reporting to their Directorate Manager, with dotted line reporting to SA Pathology ICTS. The selection process is already finalised and the incumbents commenced 10 February 2020.

Consideration has been given as to how the organisation will accommodate the changes. There are a variety of considerations across the directorates ranging from no SME at all, to SME without backfill, to SME with some backfill.

One obvious concern already pointed out to the PSA is that work previously done by some SMEs is proposed to be absorbed by remaining staff.

PSA members are still reporting increased workload following the VSP job losses last year and this proposal by SA Pathology would increase workload even further.

Please consider the changes and how they might impact you if they were to be implemented.

Consultation feedback is due by COB 5 March 2020.

Please submit your feedback via the regular channels and copy the PSA in to your submission. Alternatively, you can submit anonymously through the PSA. Please submit your responses to PSA by email by COB Tuesday 3 March 2020 for inclusion in the PSA’s submission.
