Smoking in Prisons - DCS

31 August 2016

The Department for Correctional Services (DCS) has responded to a recent PSA letter about smoking in prisons.

In their letter DCS stated that an evaluation will occur when the six month pilot at the Adelaide Remand Centre is complete and that information in relation to the learnings from the pilot and plans for the roll out at other DCS prisons will not be available until the pilot has been completed.

DCS also stated that it intends to consult with staff and relevant stakeholders once this information becomes available.

The six month pilot is due to end on 31 August 2016.

The PSA will continue to follow up with DCS to ensure the smoke-free status is rolled out to all prisons.

Please direct any questions to the PSA.
