SA Water Enterprise Agreement out to Ballot Soon – CPSU/PSA Recommends Voting ‘YES’

06 February 2018

SA Water (SAW) released the proposed Enterprise Agreement on Friday 2 February 2018 for the seven day ‘Access Period’ required under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). This allows for staff to review the proposed Agreement before voting. Members can access the proposed Agreement via the SAW Aquanet, or in hardcopy available at all SAW sites.

SAW has advised that the voting packs will be distributed by Australia Post mail on Monday 12 February 2018, and must be returned before 5pm Tuesday 27 February 2018, when voting closes.

Members are reminded to ensure that their postal address details in the SAW Employee Kiosk are up to date.

Employees will be able to return their votes by post; internal SAW mail; or by placing them in the locked ballot box located in SAW House. SAW advise that posted ballot paper envelopes date stamped by Australia Post no later than 5pm on Friday 23 February 2018 will be accepted.

The Community and Public Sector Union State Public Services Federation Group South Australian Branch (CPSU/PSA) will be present at the counting of votes. If the vote is successful the Agreement will be lodged by SAW in the Fair Work Commission for approval. Once the approval process has been completed the Agreement will commence seven days from that date, with the new wage rates then applying with backpay to 1 July 2017.

The proposed new Enterprise Agreement has been checked by the CPSU/PSA and contains all the matters agreed in principle with the CPSU/PSA.

The CPSU/PSA sought the feedback of members in relation to the proposed Agreement by e-mail and a members’ meeting. Based on this, and the upcoming State Election which in the context of a ‘no’ vote may lead to a vastly different offer depending on the outcome, the CPSU/PSA continues to recommend members support SA Water’s proposals for a new Enterprise Agreement. As noted in the CPSU/PSA’s last Update on 16 January 2018, the CPSU/PSA recommends a ‘Yes’ vote based on the improvements achieved as stated in the Terms of Offer contained in that Update; the proposed wage increases which improved from SA Water’s original offer of 1.5% per annum, and include backdating of the first increase back to 1 July 2017.

The CPSU/PSA will keep members updated following the ballot count.
