PSA Seek Explanation from Commissioner - SAPOL

The Public Service Association (SA) is seeking information from Police Commissioner Grant Stevens on proposed changes to the reform model resulting from the 2016 State Budget.

PSA members had been through a consultation process with SAPOL management on a proposed model which would have civilianised police stations and created new positions in the organisation for administration staff. This model has now been totally reversed and now reflects a model of sworn officers running all duties in police stations. This leaves doubt about members' future with SAPOL with no formal workable plan on the table.

The PSA wrote to the Commissioner on 4 August seeking an explanation to why decisions relating to reversing the model had been made and what is the future for PSA members. Unfortunately, the PSA has not received a reply to that correspondence. The PSA will now advise SAPOL that it has seven days to reply before these matters are placed in dispute.
