PSA Meets with New Public Sector Minister

The Public Service Association (PSA) met with Deputy Premier, The Hon. John Rau MP, in his capacity as the Minister for the Public Sector on 16 February 2016. The PSA was represented by General Secretary Nev Kitchin, Chief Industrial Officer Josie Barbaro and Manager, Strategy and Policy Simon Johnson.

The meeting was constructive and the following key items were discussed.

Return to Work
The PSA has publicly been calling for better Return to Work protections for members. The Minister advised that the Government is willing to negotiate with the PSA to address current issues of concern.

Determination 7 – Redeployment, Retraining and Redundancy
The PSA reiterated the importance of ensuring all Agencies comply with the requirements of Determination 7, particularly the placement of employees who have been formally declared excess. The Minister reaffirmed the Government's position of One Employer – One Government and is committed to ensuring adherence to the requirements of the Enterprise Agreement and the Commissioner's Determination.

Enterprise Bargaining Timeframe
The PSA highlighted that the current Wages Parity Agreement (Salaried) expires in December 2016 with renegotiations able to commence from mid year. The PSA will be engaging with members in the near future to commence preparation of a draft claim.

Regular Meetings
The Minister welcomed the opportunity to meet with PSA on a regular basis to discuss key matters of concern.
