Legal and Legislative Services Proposed Structural Change

12 October 2018

The Public Service Association (PSA) has been advised of proposed changes to the structure and reporting lines of the Legislative Services business unit of Attorney General’s Department (AGD). The proposal includes the loss of two LEC5 roles, to be replaced by an LEC1 and LEC2 role.

A copy of the letter can be viewed here.

The letter suggests the complexity of work performed within the business unit does not justify the current structure. Members are encouraged to consider the type of work you do and if, in fact, you are classified correctly – ultimately if you are paid fairly for the work you do.

The PSA is in the process of looking into how lawyers are classified within units of Attorney General’s Department and other parts of the Public Service such as Legal Services Commission. While this restructure is not looking at that, members input is crucial in informing any position of the PSA with regard to classifications. You are therefore encouraged to provide any feedback you have to the PSA.

The PSA is arranging with AGD to meet with members of Legislative Services business unit during work time to discuss any implications for you. Members will be notified of a time and venue for the meeting when it is scheduled.

In the meantime, if anyone has any questions, please email PSA. If you have colleagues who are not members but wish to contribute, they are welcome to attend the initial meeting.
