EA Update No. 7 - Draft EA Sent Out to Vote - Assistants to MPs

31 August 2016

The Electoral Commission has now posted out to all Assistants to Members of Parliament the draft Enterprise Agreement (EA) voting form.

Improvements from the previous EA were advised to PSA members in EA Update No. 6 of 11 July 2016. PSA members advised the PSA that they wished to accept this offer to be sent out to all Assistants to Members of Parliament to vote on.

As advised, the offer allows for three annual pay increases of 2.5% at 1 October 2015, 1 October 2016 and 1 October 2017, which for the 1 October 2015 and 1 October 2016 is the same as applies to all other Public Servants in the 2014 Wages Parity Salaried EA.

Since receipt of this offer the Treasurer, in his budget statement, announced that future pay increases would be no more than 1.5% per annum.

As with any negotiations not every claim was achieved. There have been 12 negotiation meetings (SBC) since August 2015 and these have been reported on in PSA Briefs and the minutes made available to employees.

The PSA was disappointed that there was not an increase to the termination payments as per clause 18.8:

18.8 Subject to 21.9, where an Assistant's employment is terminated in any of the circumstances described in 21.2, 21.3, 21.4, 21.5, 21.6 (excluding 21.6.3) and 21.7 the Assistant will be entitled to notice or payment in lieu of notice in accordance with the following scale:
