Department for Trade Tourism and Investment

04 December 2018

On 15 October 2018, Chief Executive Mike Hnyda wrote to the Public Service Association (PSA) to advise that as a result of the Machinery of Government (MOG) the newly formed Department for Trade Tourism and Investment (DTTI) will undergo a strategy, functions and structure realignment.

On 30 October 2018 Mike Hnyda attended a meeting between DTTI and the PSA to discuss the process the department was about to undergo. At that meeting the PSA was able to express our expectations of this consultative process.

DTTI began engaging staff with workshops to review all functions and strategies with the existing staff structure transferred over from the former DSD.

The PSA attended various workshops and meetings conducted by DTTI. Following this the PSA ran a meeting for members to discuss the transformation project and to gather feedback to present to the Transformation Team.

The concerns that members raised were:

  •  They had not seen any collated feedback from the Change Team derived from the workshops
  •  The function and purpose of the Change Committee
  •  Terms of Reference were only made available for this committee
  •  How are PSA members represented through this committee?”
  •  Clarification of timelines of the project
  •  A request for an anonymous suggestion box to be made available
  •  What are the Department’s saving targets that flow on from the State Government budget cuts?

A letter has been sent to the CEO outlining these issues and seeking information on these matters. A copy of this letter is available here.

The PSA will schedule a members’ meeting to communicate the Department’s position once it has been received.
