Country Arts SA

25 March 2020

Following the Public Service Association (PSA) members’ meeting at Country Arts SA (CASA) on 27 February 2020 the PSA provided the Department of Treasury and Finance (DTF) the two motions unanimously agreed by members.

On 6 March 2020 the PSA received a response from DTF asserting what they thought we had agreed in the South Australian Employment Tribunal (SAET).

In response to this communication, PSA Industrial Team Leader and PSA Senior Industrial Officer had a teleconference with DTF on the 11 March 2020.

The outcome from this conversation was that the PSA would provide DTF with written confirmation of the following:

  1. Country Arts SA management is to contact employees who are deemed to be on contracts of employment for the purposes of either back-fill for an absent employee, or employed for a specific term to undertake a specific project which will not be ongoing.

  2. These employees will not be part of the group who are guaranteed employment until, at a minimum, 30 June 2020.

  3. When Country Arts SA management contacts these employees they will be provided with the option to have a PSA official present should they request it.

  4. Rationale is to be provided to the PSA by Country Arts SA is to explain why the presentation (to staff) of the new structure is not able to be facilitated prior to 18 May 2020.

  5. The PSA will advise its members at Country Arts SA of the points listed above.

On 13 March 2020 the PSA received communication from DTF rejecting the members’ request to be provided with the new structure by the 18 May 2020. DTF also advised that there are four employees who may not have their contracts extended until at least 30 June 2020.

Any PSA member who has been approached by CASA regarding termination of their contract prior to the 30 June 2020 is encouraged to contact the PSA for support.
