Consultative Meeting | Staffing Arrangements for Reception and Control Room at Jonal Drive Campus

03 December 2018

The Public Service Association (PSA) has been supporting members at Adelaide Youth Training in relation to securing appropriate staffing for the reception and control room at the Jonal Drive campus.

The PSA has raised concerns previously regarding inadequate consultation on this matter. Members would be aware that as a result of PSA intervention a 4 week trial period with a 2 week feedback period has been agreed to. During the trial period, staff are requested to gather information to monitor the activity within the reception space to enable management to develop a final staffing model. It is crucial that the ‘activity logs’ provided by management are being completed on each shift by every staff member working in the reception area.

The staffing for the trial period in the control room/reception is not the preferred model put forward by PSA members. Instead the model put forward by management is as set out below:

2 OPS2 workers from 7:00am – 3:00pm. On all other shifts the area will be staffed only by 1 OPS2 worker with scope for 1 OPS2 worker to be provided from the Police Custody Unit, from 2:30pm – 11:00pm, if deemed necessary.

Since the commencement of the trial, the PSA is aware that many concerns have been raised. It is imperative that this feedback and other concerns are collated centrally for presentation at a consultative meeting on 21 December 2018 at 9:00am at Goldsborough Road.

The PSA has clearly stated that broad representation from Control Room Operators, Worksite Representatives, Supervisors, Work Health Safety Representatives and the PSA is paramount to ensure a genuine consultative process is undertaken.

The PSA requests that members from the above groups make themselves available to attend the meeting on 21 December 2018. There will be many matters that will need to be discussed and agreed on before operations within this area can proceed on an ongoing basis. Interested members should contact PSA to advise of your attendance.
