Adelaide Youth Training Centre | Body-Worn Cameras Trial

08 April 2020

The Public Service Association (PSA) received a call from Adelaide Youth Training Centre (AYTC) Worksite Representatives (WSRs) on Wednesday 1 April 2020 stating the trial of body-worn cameras was commencing Monday 6 April 2020.

Prior to that time the PSA had not been notified of this trial commencing. The PSA immediately wrote to AYTC General Manager to halt this trial until consultation had been completed.

Working with your WSRs in the centre, the PSA was able to organise a meeting between management, WSRs and the PSA on Thursday 3 April 2020 to work through this issue. We discussed the feedback which had been submitted by members and the PSA was finally provided with all of the relevant documentation. The AYTC General Manager apologised for not including the PSA in this consultation and acknowledged his oversight. Members would have received an email with an update of the first stage trial of the body-worn cameras from management and this has been agreed in principle by WSRs attending last Thursday’s meeting.

Many of your concerns were addressed in this meeting and WSRs have advocated strongly for members on all contentious issues. This trial will be rolled out in stages and there will be ongoing consultation. Members are asked to provide feedback to the working party and your PSA WSRs. The PSA has been assured that management at AYTC will pause this trial if anything needs to be modified.

The PSA continues to work with DHS around COVID-19 and the issues and concerns of our members. We are here to assist you through this difficult and uncertain time. We also encourage you to look after yourself, family and your workmates.

Please do not hesitate to contact the PSA Members’ Rights Hotline on 8205 3227 or your PSA Organiser directly with any concerns or industrial issues.

Never before has union membership been more important. The PSA is advocating constantly for the proper maintenance of your leave entitlements, conditions and keeping DHS accountable.
