Adelaide Remand Centre Legal Case Update

22 March 2019

The legal case about the privatisation of the Adelaide Remand Centre and proper consultation around that decision and subsequent implementation continued this week. There have been two further appearances before the South Australian Employment Court this week following our previously reported appearance on Tuesday 19 March 2019.

The purpose of these appearances has been to continue to settle technical legal matters about what documentation is sought as well as the PSA seeking interim orders in the lead-up to our trial which is listed to begin on 10 April 2019.

There will be further appearances in the South Australian Employment Court prior to the full hearing on 10, 11, 12 April 2019.

As it stands today, the Government has not provided the PSA with relevant documentation which has been requested or ordered, including a copy of the contract signed by Serco and the Minister for Correctional Services.

The South Australian Employment Court issued general orders today outlining timelines for the various outlines of submissions, affidavits, objections and any further amended grounds and reasons both parties need to produce prior to the full hearing commencing.

The PSA will continue to provide updates to members as the case progresses.
